Devotions
by Michael Lane
We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature -- trees, flowers, grass -- grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence. We need silence to be able to touch souls. - Mother Theresa
A few months ago, one of my favorite bloggers, Peter Bregman, wrote about his experience with the new iPad from Apple. To summarize, he spent about a week with it and then decided to return it, but not for the reasons you might expect. It was not broken or ineffective.
I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly (John 10:10, NKJV).
In
the beginning, the Creator was not stingy with our environment. He
filled it with life. Planet Earth was progressively transformed as every
day God's Word went forth and every day God's Word was received. Each
day's change prepared the environment for the next day's change until it
was totally transformed.
I pulled into a parking space at Wal-mart. An elderly lady-more elderly than I-stood next to her open trunk and was laboriously lifting her purchases from her shopping cart and placing them into her trunk. Just as I swung open my door, another lady appeared. She was on her way into the store, but she stopped to offer the elderly lady assistance.
"The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this
generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts
of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than
Solomon is here." Matthew 12:42
The Pharisees were criticizing, castigating, and judging Jesus. And
Jesus responded by saying, "Look, a greater than Solomon is here." Now,
what caused Jesus to say that?
And I will strengthen them in the Lord: and they shall walk up and down in his name, saith the Lord. (Zechariah 10:12)
A solace for sick saints. They have grown faint, and they
fear that they shall never rise from the bed of doubt and fear; but the
Great Physician can both remove the disease and take away the weakness
which has come of it. He will strengthen the feeble.
I started to buy a new Bible the other day (because my old one is about worn out), but I ended up too confused to make a decision. Between all the different translations and then the various study Bibles, there were just too many choices. How can I find the right one? -- Mrs. A.L.
What's the first image you see when you turn on your computer? Maybe
it's a family portrait or a special vacation picture. Or perhaps your
favorite pro athlete.
Do you know what quiet time is? It is fellowship with a holy God. The
reason that some people do not have a quiet time is that they feel
uncomfortable. They don't want to look God in the face because there is
unconfessed, unrepented sin in their life.
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth. (John 16:13)
Truth is like a vast cavern into which we desire to
enter, but we are not able to traverse it alone. At the entrance it is
clear and bright; but if we would go further and explore its innermost
recesses, we must have a guide, or we shall lose ourselves. The Holy
Spirit, who knows all truth perfectly, is the appointed guide of all
true believers, and He conducts them as they are able to bear it, from
one inner chamber to another, so that they behold the deep things of
God, and His secret is made plain to them.
"Behold, this is our God; we have waited for Him, and He will save us." Isaiah 25:9, NKJV
When people don't listen, remember Jesus. When tears come, remember
Jesus. When disappointment is your bed partner, remember Jesus. When
fear pitches his tent in your front yard. When death looms, when anger
simmers, when shame weighs heavily. Remember Jesus.
